Successful entrepreneur and community activist, Ms. Mary Reed supports CET and her community...
Currently a Contingent Services Representative Assistant for the 7th Congressional Service District in Chicago, Mary Reed has lead an interesting life. Born in Hot Springs Arkansas, one of 8 children, to a single mother whose monthly welfare income was $96 month, Mary left Hot Springs early in her teens. She moved to Chicago, to marry and complete her high school education, and then attend Beauty School. Upon graduation, she opened her own beauty salon, which she successfully operated for 30 years as "Mary House of Styles".
Ms. Reed is an active member of CET's Industrial Advisor Board (IAB). The IAB serves in an advisory role to CET training center directors and staff assisting with direct contributions of time, resources and in-kind donations to enhance. classroom training. Over her years of supporting CET, Ms. Reed has assisted students with referrals for jobs, apprentice programs, social services, and has assisted CET in obtaining empowerment zone grants; Ms Reed is ever present at CET and other community functions.
Ms. Reed is a true inspiration to CET staff and students, and has frequently mentored students
through presentation, as well as assisting with recruitment.

Currently employed by Congressman Danny K Davis as a Staff Assistant for Constituent Services, Mary Reed has worked for 35 years in public service. Previous to working as a Staff Assistant, she worked as a Community Representative for Alderman, Michael Chandler. Married for 30 years until the death of her husband, she is a mother of two and a grandmother of two.
In describing this successful entrepreneur's career, one can recount her many years in service as a:

Over her working career, Ms. Reed has also spent time on issues where she felt passionately. Several years ago, she formed a coalition to assist an inmate in getting off death row: Geraldine Smith, the first black women on dearth row in Dwight, Illinois. In 1995, she was also instrumental in keeping the 100 year old Howland Elementary School open for future generations of Lawndale children to attend. As a Community activist, Mary worked with various elected officials: Congressman Danny K Davis, State Senator Rickey Henton, and Alderman Michael Chandler.
